Children are fun loving and love life, so what goes wrong?

Image
Somehow along the way from childhood to adulthood, we let that slip We let it become distorted and twisted Adulthood becomes filled with stress and strain With mortgages and unloved jobs With arguments, fights and broken relationships Hurt and pain We start to be silent When we are children we are taught to ignore the parts of ourselves that make us unique The parts of ourselves that create our gifts Our unique perspective on this life This builds over the years By the time we reach our 40s the world of our childhood is a distant memory We have become shadows of our former selves We look for change and it's hard We see the world for what it is and what it should have been We are crippled by years of fear from unfulfilled needs We are twisted because we never got what we truly wanted Children instinctively know life is a playground Life is meant to be filled with fun and adventure Adventure for the heart and the soul Adventuring with fun and joy The existence of love for self, love ...

Fathers! Children hold a mirror up to you and it gets ugly!

Image
Fathers! Children hold a mirror up to you and it gets ugly! It’s perhaps the most unwanted but needed gift of parenting When you become a parent your life changes The father's perspective is different from a mothers A mother feels this as the child grows inside and forms attachments The father doesn’t get to experience this I can only speak from my perspective as a father Fatherhood doesn’t dawn until the day your child appears You know your child is coming beforehand You try to prepare The truth is you simply have no idea The moment your first child is born The moment you first touch them The first time they look at you and recognise you The world changes One day you are single, do what you want, go where you want, when you want The next day you are responsible for a life A life fully dependent on you ‘being’ there This is a revolution in your life The dawn of a new era The beginning of adulthood The beginning of responsibility The beginning of a new you You will fall short Your...

Why do children love the Internet?

Image
They crave stimulation, interaction and connection If we take a look at rl there is very little stimulation for children outside of organized events that are not created by adults. School everything is organised and children are force-fed stimulation from an authoritarian structure Outside of school, they have clubs created and run by adults Our parks have few facilities geared toward play We have overused and under-resourced playgrounds Maybe you have basketball courts or tennis courts and a pond We have an outdoor gym in one of our local parks but it is designed for adults My children still love to play on it, why? Because it's freeform play, they can be creative, it's stimulating, engaging and fun Where are the outdoor gyms for kids? Where is the art for kids (beyond graffiti) The next best resource I have come across is the local library where children are free to read Then there's the adventure playground, supervised and free to play, parents love these environment. ...

Safe spaces for children need to be uncomfortable too - open and supportive environments - where mess is welcome

Image
Children dream of the life they want to live. Few are born with the knowledge and understanding readily available. Most have to recover from a state of amnesia. Being born often requires a state of not knowing. You are not born with all of the knowledge of your soul. Your physical mind has to develop. As it develops more knowledge becomes available but only if our environment is open and understanding. For this to happen we need to be in environments that support being open and understanding of the process. The process of allowing, the process of wanting an attitude of support and acceptance. That being who you are is a good thing. An environment that created healthy boundaries that grow as the child grows. Just enough to support without oppression or suppression. An environment that encourages the healthy expression of self and teaches how to care for the negative aspects of self in a healthy constructive way. Denying there are negative aspects of self through suppression eventually b...

My revolutionary 1st year as a homeschooling dad

Image
I have learned so many things I have had to unlearn many more Unschooling is not just for the children. After more than 20 years of working in digital and marketing making the change to a homeschooler was just like starting a whole new career. It has been frustrating, challenging, and sometimes slow. There has been a lot of change needed, mentally and emotionally. Routines have changed, and attitudes have changed. How I view life, work, productivity, love, relationships and what is important. I have watched my children grow into fearless, confident, outspoken (erm...), opinionated young people with attitude, personality, energy and enthusiasm. One of the greatest achievements I feel is that they are happy. Every day, they are happy. Of course, this level of happiness is a challenge for me because their energy levels are off the chart and it needs to be channelled into creativity and exercise.  This has been challenging through the winter months when it is not as easy to go outdoors...

Divine masculine power is a trigger for the toxic feminine

Image
Most women want to see the divine masculine but don't always like it or know what to do with it. It's a trigger. The divine masculine shines a light on the toxic feminine. This is often a part of the female shadow she is not prepared to face. It's only through the repeated exposure to the divine masculine but most importantly the desire for change, real change. That growth is possible in relationships. This in part is because women are not used to seeing the divine masculine and have, as a result, created a shadow self to survive. This shadow self is, in part, dependent on several things. Was your mother a person who stood in her divine feminine power? She formed your template for being a woman so if she did then you are one of the lucky ones as most were not offered this opportunity. Did your father stand in his divine masculine? He formed your template for men. If you were very lucky you had both parents standing in their divine powers. With their shadows serving them rat...

Learn how to be self confident

The real work happens on a subconscious level.   You need to release the trauma and work on reprogramming, your thoughts, emotions and actions.  The good news, you can do a lot of this yourself. I had a coach help me through the tough bits and together we created routines to embed new frameworks and techniques. Roughly speaking any changes take 2 to 4 works to embed. So having daily or regular practice will be difficult for the first month but after this the routines begin to embed and become habitual. After a month or so you don’t even notice that they have become part of your daily practice. What started out as challenging becomes routine. The benefit of applying a little energy at the start, over the years, will guarantee life changing results.  If you are thinking of who it could work for you. Here a quick breakdown of some of the process and frameworks you can focus on: Review your internal dialogue - how you speak to yourself determines how you view the world Be hon...
